Wooden Shoe Stable

Over a year ago I added a Tarpan horse to my group. Mist is a 9-year-old gelding. He is a great ambassador to his breed and demonstrates his kind demeanor to every visitor.

See how beautifully Mist moves with Americano the Andalusian, in this video:

WHAT WE DO

Together with Animado the Sorraia, we work on clicker training and target training. These training systems are well suited to both domesticated animals and wildlife. The purpose of this training is not only to prepare the horses for more standard training but also for administration of medications when needed. needs to be administered. It is also a great tool for bonding.I have been working as a dressage instructor since the 1980s. My focus is on improving the balance and freedom of movement of the horse by working with my clients on correctness of position and aids while paying attention to the horse’s body language. I educate young (and old...)  kids about the history of horses and the many amazing types of horse—such as the Tarpan horse.  I do this not only on my farm, but through other opportunities to teach about and show horses, including pony clubs, 4H groups and girl/boy scout groups. I have created a presentation about the history of the horse and the Tarpan horse. The relationships among prehistoric horses dating back to Equus Scotti in the Eocene to the Tarpan became relevant.  The aims of this presentation are to teach participants about the long road to the characteristics of the Tarpan horse today and how meaningful they can be in our lives as equine partners. I am also working on a book about Mist for children ages 6-8.

Finally, as a portrait painter I love to paint horses. I work as a painter in a gallery in downtown Manassas, Virginia (Creative Brush Fine Art Studios and Gallery).  Between my commissions for paintings of people and dogs, I paint Tarpan horse portraits.
